Global Media Outreach (GMO) recently launched a new mission of outreach and discipleship across the vast, spiritually hungry continent of Africa. This transformative development, led by a pioneering team of new Online Missionaries (OMs) in Nairobi, Kenya, marks a major new chapter initiated by God.
The Opportunity God Provided
The spark that ignited this ministry came from a tremendous response online. GMO receives thousands of contacts every day from African Internet users seeking answers to life’s biggest questions. While GMO has been reaching people with the Gospel in Africa for many years, our OMs have been largely based in the U.S. The next step was to connect African seekers—the world’s youngest population—with African believers who are fully immersed in their culture and language.
God answered this challenge through a providential opportunity: a partnership with International Christian Youthworks (ICY) Africa, led by Dr. Joe Bonga. Along with GMO, ICY is partnering with local churches across the continent to equip these young people, allowing our OMs to connect seekers with believers in their own communities.
God has ignited an awakening across the continent, and the mission is clear: to be an active part of His work.
Launching the Mission Hub
The team moved quickly to act on God’s timing. His provision enabled ICY and GMO to establish a mission hub in Nairobi, Kenya. This center offers far more than a physical presence—it is a mission hub to train and equip African OMs to serve in structured 6–8 hour shifts.
God’s faithfulness brought immediate, staggering results. The goal was ambitious—to connect with 45 contacts every day. The new team quickly exceeded that target, underscoring the immense hunger for the Gospel and the overwhelming demand for connection in the region.
OM Caleb Wanjala, one of the new Kenyan recruits, reflected this urgency: “The Internet is the largest mission field on earth, and I just got my digital marching orders! I’m ready to turn scrolling into saving!”
Fulfilling the Full Commission
The African OM Team focuses on the complete vision of the Great Commission: both evangelism and discipleship.
- The Connection: Trained OMs respond personally to individuals who engage with a GMO Gospel presentation and request follow-up. One of these OMs, Michael, explained that serving allows him to “reach the unreachable who spend time on the Internet,” and to “Grow in [his] own personal walk with Jesus.”
- The Growth on PATH: New believers are guided through a discipleship journey using PATH, GMO’s secure digital growth tool, which supports spiritual growth. This journey is strengthened by a partnership with Ligonier Ministries, which provided study Bibles for all of the Kenya OMs.
- Connecting to Community: The ultimate goal is to connect these new believers to a local body of believers, ensuring they have the ongoing support of a Christian community to thrive in their faith.
Your Role in the Awakening
This strategic initiative invests directly in the future of the global Church, where the world’s youngest population now drives the digital mission field in Africa. God is moving, and you are invited today to be a part of His work.
Heidy’s story is just one example of the power of this new movement. Heidy is a young woman in Nairobi, who began searching the Internet for answers after feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and worthlessness in the digital world. After seeing a Gospel message, she clicked and was connected with an OM. Through consistent mentorship and guidance, she eventually committed her life to Christ. Today, she serves as a light in her own community and is thriving in her faith.
Heidy’s transformation—from anxious seeker to thriving believer—shows the profound power of this digital ministry. God is using the faith and dedication of the pioneering Kenyan OMs to build a lasting legacy. Your prayers and partnership are vital to expanding this discipleship journey across the entire continent, making sure the next generation meets and grows in a relationship with Jesus.
