From Harvest Fields to God’s Word: Juan’s Journey Toward Faith
Juan, a 43-year-old farm laborer from Argentina, has spent his life moving from place to place, following the harvest. But in December 2024, his search took a different turn—this time, a search for something far deeper. Through El Camino Hacia Dios, a ministry site of Global Media Outreach, Juan encountered the love of Jesus and a new beginning that is transforming his life.
A Life Marked by Hardship
Life has not been easy for Juan. As one of five children, he began working at just 12 years old to help his family survive. At 14, he suffered a devastating accident while working, which left him in a coma with internal injuries. During his recovery, he received an unregulated blood transfusion that infected him with HIV, a painful burden he has carried ever since. He has also endured the loss of his mother and now only has his father. Yet despite his hardships, Juan’s heart remained open, and God was quietly at work.
A Digital Encounter with Truth
Six months ago, feeling the weight of health struggles doctors could not fix, Juan reached out for prayer through the El Camino Hacia Dios website. His email connected him with Betty, a GMO Online Volunteer, who patiently began guiding him in his first steps of faith. Betty introduced him to the basics of Christianity—teaching him how to pray, how to study the Bible, and who the Holy Spirit is. She even shared a simple, four-point guide she had written called “How to Come to Jesus,” encouraging him to start reading the Gospel of John through Bible.com.
A Thirst for the Word
A lady at a local fair had recently given Juan a New Testament Bible, and with Betty’s encouragement, he opened it with fresh eyes. What followed was a remarkable hunger for the Word of God. Juan now reads every passage Betty sends him, asks thoughtful questions almost daily, and eagerly dives deeper into Scripture. He has wrestled with big questions like why God allows suffering and whether God punishes sin, and Betty, relying on Scripture and trusted resources like GotQuestions.org, gently helps him navigate these truths. Through their conversations, Juan is learning the difference between punishment and discipline, and he is growing in his understanding of God’s character and love.
The Faithful Guide: Betty’s Ministry
Behind Juan’s story is the faithful ministry of Betty. A retired school librarian and self-proclaimed lifelong introvert, Betty has found her calling discipling seekers from her own home. Through her more than 14 years of service with GMO, she has walked alongside more than 25,000 seekers like Juan. Strengthened by her deep faith and a daily reliance on the Holy Spirit, Betty finds great joy in answering questions, sharing God’s Word, and praying for each individual by name.
A Story of Hope
Juan’s journey reminds us that no life is too hidden, no heart too distant for God to reach. Through an online connection, Juan’s life is being transformed day by day by the Word of God. And through faithful volunteers like Betty, the love of Christ continues to spread across the world—one seeker, one prayer, one message at a time.
