Content Notes:

Guarding the Gospel and Your Heart
We share the Gospel and the Holy Spirit convicts the heart. As the Holy Spirit convicts, that can stir emotions, feelings, needs, abuse, feelings of poverty, and shame.

Tend Your Garden to Reap Your Own Harvest
People want to pull you in many directions, but God has called you to HIS Direction. Gave an example of wanting to start a “shoe drive” for the people in a remote village. God reminded her that she was there to share the Gospel.

Matthew 28:16-20
“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Colossians 3:12-17
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Guard the Gospel

Know Who You Are and What You Guard Against

Guardians of the Gospel
  • Jars of Clay – we hold the hope, we are not the hope. We are the jar.
  • Ambassadors
  • Heralds
  • Hands and feet
Guard the Gospel
  • Voices – (Local people, family, friends) How are the local voices changing what I am saying to the Contact?
  • Culture – Their cultural expectations, what the Gospel says might be pushing against their parents, grandparents’ expectations.
  • Technology – What is competing for their time?
  • Emotions – Allow the Holy Spirit to rebuke you. Anger and compassion can both take you off the course of sharing the Gospel.
Guard Your Heart
  • Know Your why, your Model, your Goal
  • Temptations
  • How to Prepare
  • Who is your why? Jesus
  • Some are called for the people, the sheep. The sheep don’t listen to us; it can be overwhelming.
John 21: 15-17
“Don’t focus on the sheep” just feed and care for them.
We are influenced by our family of origin and how we were raised.
Only God knows the heart of man.
See to it that no one takes you captive. Christ is who we pass on to people, not our family of origin or traditions.

Tempted to Hopelessness
  • Lies and scams
  • Consider what “your” garden is – It is to share the Gospel
  • You are not the person to fix someone
  • You are not responsible for someone’s salvation
  • The Holy Spirit convicts people
  • Temptation can be flattery. Our success at being an Online Missionary can make us take the glory. Satan will tempt us in this.
  • Pride can will take us off course
Unguarded Hearts Lead to an Unguarded Gospel
  • Stay prepared by being IN the Gospel.
  • Read and apply the Gospel daily.
