Every day, thousands of individuals across Africa search the Internet for answers to life’s heaviest questions. To meet this spiritual hunger, Global Media Outreach partnered with International Christian Youthworks (ICY) Africa to launch a localized mission hub in Nairobi, Kenya. The goal is simple: connect African seekers with local believers who understand their language and culture.
Working in structured shifts, these new Online Missionaries (OMs) provide both evangelism and discipleship with joy and compassion. The digital mission field is filled with men and women wrestling with deep spiritual questions and longing for lasting hope.
“Seeing people regain passion for believing in a better tomorrow and life in Christ is a true privilege and joy,” said Mercy, an OM serving in our African Language Hub.
The God Who Sees
Recently, Mercy connected with Amina, a woman navigating a painful divorce. Feeling rejected and spiritually confused, Amina believed the end of her marriage meant she had failed God. Mercy responded with patience, sharing the story of Hagar from Genesis 16 to remind Amina that she serves “the God who sees.”
Through consistent prayer and Scriptures about healing, like Psalm 147:3, Amina’s bitterness softened into peace. Realizing her identity is found in Christ, not her marital status, she is now on a journey of reconciliation with her husband and continues to grow in her faith.
An Anchor in the Storm
The ICY Africa team also supported Otieno, a seeker consumed by grief and doubt after the unexpected loss of his brother. He questioned how a loving God could allow such pain. Mercy walked him through the story of Job and reminded him of John 11:35, showing that Jesus Himself wept and is never distant from our sorrow.
Anchored by the promise of eternal hope in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, this man gradually found peace. Otieno shared that although the pain remains, God has become his anchor in the storm.
Grace in the Waiting
In another digital encounter, Mercy journeyed with, Naomi, an exhausted mother caring for a child with a serious health condition. She feared the delay in healing was a punishment for past sins. Mercy pointed her to John 9, clarifying that sickness is not always the result of personal sin.
As they prayed together for provision and wisdom, God strengthened her heart. Naomi experienced profound peace as she waited in hospital rooms, and eventually received unexpected financial support, transforming her journey into a testimony of God’s sustaining grace.
The Exponential Impact
“In each of these situations, we were reminded that God is already the solution,” Mercy reflected. “Our role was to listen, respond with Scripture, and pray faithfully, pointing each person back to Him.”
The Nairobi hub was built with an ambitious goal to connect with 45 contacts every day, a target the team quickly exceeded. Empowered by study Bibles provided through a partnership with Ligonier Ministries, these dedicated OMs are guiding new believers into local churches to thrive in their faith.
In fact, the spiritual harvest across the continent is so plentiful that the African Language Hub is now launching another language—Swahili. This vital expansion allows OMs to connect with millions of additional seekers in their native language, removing barriers to the Gospel and multiplying the impact of every conversation.
As Caleb, another Kenyan OM, summarized when we first launched the African Language Hub, “The Internet is the largest mission field on earth, and I just got my digital marching orders! I’m ready to turn scrolling into saving!”
