My name is Samira, and I am eighteen years old. I grew up in a Syrian Orthodox family where being “Christian” was more about tradition than knowing God. I worked hard at school, pouring my life into textbooks and future plans. But I had no prayer life. My heart was far from God, and at times I was fanatical and even blasphemous. I had a sharp tongue and a stubborn streak. I didn’t realise how empty I was.
Then one day in January, I came across an ad that directed me to the GodLife website in Arabic. An online volunteer reached out and asked me how he could pray for me. I was immediately defensive. I blocked him and even asked a friend to try to convert him to Catholicism. When my friend failed and was blocked, the volunteer found me again through the website. He didn’t preach at me; instead, he gently encouraged me to treat people with kindness and to reflect on my own attitude. Little by little, his patience started to break down my walls.
As we continued to message, I saw that my life lacked any real relationship with God. I had the label “Christian,” but no substance behind it. Despite all my studying, I felt restless and dissatisfied. The volunteer’s kind persistence and the content he shared with me opened my eyes.
On March 1, 2025, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. In that moment of surrender, peace filled me in a way I had never known. Not long after, I had a vivid dream: Jesus came to me, placed His hand on my forehead, and I felt something like a current flow through me. I woke up joyful, convinced that He had healed me from sin.
My life hasn’t been the same since. I still prefer to communicate only with the volunteer who first reached out; trust does not come easily to me, and I haven’t yet joined a discipleship group. But I’m growing. I join online prayer meetings. I read the Bible and joined a WhatsApp channel that the volunteer shared to express what I am learning. God is teaching me to love, to be patient, and to turn away from my old ways. My heart’s desire now is to live intimately with Him every day. The verse that anchors me is, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Jesus invited me when I was weary, and He kept His promise.
