Equipping Volunteers to Share the Gospel: A Special Training for Online Missionaries

We hosted an Online Missionary Celebration featuring keynote speaker Haley Scully, a renowned speaker, author, and counselor.

At Global Media Outreach, we believe that every interaction with a seeker is an opportunity to share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. That’s why we invest in equipping our Online Missionaries (OMs) with the best training and resources to be effective digital evangelists.

Recently, we hosted an Online Missionary Celebration featuring keynote speaker Haley Scully, a renowned speaker, author, and counselor. This powerful training session, “Guarding the Gospel and Your Heart,” was designed to encourage and equip our OMs as they navigate meaningful Gospel conversations with people across the world.

Thanks to the generosity of ministry and prayer partners like you, this kind of specialized training is made possible—helping volunteers grow in their ability to reach those who are lost, hurting, and searching for truth.

Why Training Matters

Every day, seekers from around the world reach out through our digital platforms, looking for answers about faith, hope, and salvation. Our OMs serve as guides, helping them take the next step toward Jesus. But engaging in Gospel conversations—especially online—comes with unique challenges.

In her message, Haley reminded our volunteers of an essential truth: we are messengers of the Gospel, not the source of salvation. Our role is to faithfully share God’s Word while trusting the Holy Spirit to work in people’s hearts.

Key points from the training included:

Tending the Garden of Your Heart

Online Missionaries often encounter seekers carrying deep burdens—shame, past hurts, and brokenness. Just as a gardener tends to their crops, Gospel messengers must first cultivate their own hearts by staying rooted in God’s truth.

Matthew 28:18-20 reminds us of our mission:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Our OMs must stay focused on this Great Commission, even when distractions arise. Haley shared a story of being tempted to start a shoe drive for a remote village—something that seemed like a good idea but wasn’t the mission God had called her to at that moment. Similarly, our OMs must remember that their calling is to share Christ first and foremost.

Guarding the Gospel

Haley encouraged our OMs to be guardians of the Gospel, remaining steadfast despite the challenges of online ministry:

  • Cultural Barriers – Seekers may struggle with family or societal expectations that conflict with Biblical truth.
  • Technology Distractions – Competing voices and online influences can distract people from Gospel conversations.
  • Emotional Challenges – Volunteers must rely on the Holy Spirit, avoiding the temptations of pride, frustration, or hopelessness.

“We hold the hope; we are not the hope.” – Haley reminded our volunteers that, like jars of clay, they carry the treasure of the Gospel, but salvation belongs to the Lord.

Staying Spiritually Prepared

One of the most important takeaways from the training was the importance of staying spiritually prepared. OMs must continually be in God’s Word, guarding their hearts against burnout, discouragement, and misplaced motivations.

  • Know your “why” – Jesus is the reason we serve.
  • Understand your role – We are called to share the Gospel, but only God can transform hearts.
  • Resist temptations – Success in ministry can lead to pride, and challenges can lead to despair. Stay grounded in Christ.

Haley shared John 21:15-17, where Jesus instructs Peter to feed and care for His sheep. This is the heart of our Online Missionary ministry—we are here to guide seekers toward the Good Shepherd.
