POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of People & Operations plays a key leadership role at the intersection of human resources, culture, and operational excellence. This position is responsible for cultivating a thriving team culture, strengthening organizational systems, and overseeing key financial and administrative functions. As a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team, this role supports both strategic initiatives and day-to-day needs that enable a healthy, mission-aligned workforce and strong operational foundation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

People Operations & Culture

  • Serve as the HR lead and advisor to the executive team on all people-related matters
  • Maintain and update HR policies, job descriptions, and the employee handbook
  • Lead compensation and benefits administration, including salary bands and annual benefits review
  • Foster a healthy remote team culture through initiatives such as:
  • Internal communications (Slack norms, prayer coordination, etc.)
  • Professional development and leadership growth opportunities
  • Quarterly Prayer & Planning Calls (QPC), retreats, and speaker sessions
  • Partner with the CEO on organizational development and change management initiatives
  • Build internal tools and frameworks for communication, collaboration, and accountability (e.g. RACI models, feedback loops)

Performance & Talent Management

  • Implement standards and tools for performance conversations and ongoing feedback
  • Create and support onboarding, training, and succession planning processes
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop recruiting and retention strategies
  • Conduct market analysis to ensure compensation stewardship and competitiveness

Finance Oversight & Administration

  • Supervise the Finance Manager to ensure payroll, benefits, expense reimbursements and invoices are accurately processed through internal systems in a timely manner
  • Lead cross-departmental organizational budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Oversee nonprofit compliance with Finance Manager, including charitable registrations, annual audit, and IRS Form 990
  • Serve as the contract approver for department-recommended agreements
  • Coordinate legal counsel, when needed

Qualifications

  • Committed Christian aligned with GMO’s Statement of Faith

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Nonprofit Management, Business, or related field

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in HR and/or operations (nonprofit experience preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices

  • Experience with nonprofit budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance

  • Experience with contract review and vendor coordination

  • High emotional intelligence with a track record of building strong remote cultures

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and strategic thinking skills

  • Highly motivated self-starter and collaborative team player, even under stressful conditions

  • Ability to work well with and manage multiple internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts

  • Proven experience in effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives

  • Preferred experience with: Sage Intacct, Martus, ClickUp, and RAMP

  • Advanced skills with standard office applications, such as Google Suite or Microsoft Office
