Job Description – Data Science & Analytics Director

We are seeking a skilled and mission-driven Data Scientist to join our growing team. This role is pivotal in helping us understand, engage with, and support people at every stage of their spiritual journey. As a Data Science & Analytics Director at Global Media Outreach, you’ll apply statistical modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques to generate insights that inform outreach strategies, measure spiritual engagement, and optimize impact. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the organization to ensure data is used to advance our mission effectively and responsibly.
Key Responsibilities:
This role will provide leadership to the Data Science & Analytics team and foster cross-functional collaboration (including engineering, product, etc.) to align data initiatives with broader business objectives. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer and works closely with the Director of Engineering and Sr. Director of Solutions as part of the Technology Solutions leadership team.
Modeling, Metrics & Analysis:
- Design and implement machine learning models to classify contacts, predict user engagement, and identify behavioral trends.
- Develop and refine metrics to quantify spiritual growth and content effectiveness.
- Analyze large datasets to extract insights that inform strategic decisions, campaign performance, and digital outreach strategies.
Experimentation & Optimization:
- Design and evaluate A/B tests, multivariate experiments, and causal analyses to test hypotheses and optimize messaging, user flows, and engagement pathways.
- Leverage data insights to assess the efficacy of product enhancements, content approaches, and operational workflows. This analysis will inform solution development and drive continuous improvement.
Data Engineering Collaboration:
- Partner with the Director of Engineering to source, clean, and prepare structured and unstructured data for analysis and model deployment.
- Contribute to refining data pipelines and support the execution of scalable models in production environments.
Communication & Visualization:
- Communicate complex data insights to stakeholders at all levels through clear narratives and effective data visualizations, enabling data‑driven decision‑making across the organization.
- Create compelling dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate trends and recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership.
Research & Innovation:
- Stay informed on trends in data science, machine learning, and AI—especially those applicable to digital engagement and nonprofit work.
- Explore emerging technology trends such as NLP, recommender systems, and responsible AI to inform future innovation.
Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- 5–7 years in data science/analytics with leadership experience.
- Proficiency in Python or R and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, caret).
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases and data warehouses.
- Demonstrated experience with supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
- Strong grasp of experimental design, hypothesis testing, and statistical inference.
- Excellent communication and visualization skills, with the ability to explain complex models to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience deploying models and working with data in production environments.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience in digital engagement, donor analytics, or non-profit impact measurement.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Exposure to NLP and chatbot-related applications.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Understanding of data ethics and responsible AI practices.
