As we joyfully celebrate our incredible 20-year mark in ministry, we’re overflowing with gratitude to God for leading us to this milestone. We are filled with joy for the transformative power of God’s grace and the generous support that has reached hearts worldwide. Thanks to the unwavering dedication to spreading Jesus’ love, over 290 million people worldwide have chosen to follow Christ to date. Each person’s story is unique. They come from all walks of life, all ages, cultures, and areas of the world—a true testament to the power of Jesus’ transcending love.
Global Media Outreach (GMO) started when God granted our founder, Walt Wilson, an incredible vision for the Internet. In a meeting at MIT with some of the brightest minds in the world, God spoke to Walt, showing him a vision of using the Internet as the modern-day digital vehicle to take the Gospel worldwide. Initially met with skepticism, Walt’s vision has since rallied thousands of volunteers and donors.
As a result, Global Media Outreach doubled its original goal by sharing the Gospel over 2 billion times by 2020—only possible through God’s provision and the unwavering support of donors, volunteers, and prayer warriors.
As we look back to when the first GMO campaign began with a spiritual website in conjunction with the film “The Passion of the Christ,” we see how God has led us each step. That first campaign resulted in 21,066 people indicating a decision for Christ. That success moved GMO to build a global website in over 20 languages. The ability to reach people with keywords at their point of need, in their own language was groundbreaking.
From presenting the Gospel to 1 billion people in 2014 to presenting the Gospel in 13 different languages today, [2024] GMO is always thinking of new and cutting-edge ways to reach the world with the love of Jesus. Each decision is bathed in prayer and carefully walked through step by step. We developed campaigns to reach people during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and through an online virtual Bible study in the world’s Middle East/North African (MENA) region in 2022—allowing attendees to interact and pray for one another anonymously. Time and again, God has done immeasurably more than we could think or imagine.
Our success in sharing the Gospel is also due to our partnerships with our donors, our Online Missionaries, and other Christian organizations, pastors, and influencers. For example, John Beckett’s partnership with GMO launched (Life’s Greatest Questions, now called caniknowgod.com), a website geared towards business professionals, reaching over 191 million people from 2006 till present [01/2024]. John also wrote a discipleship course for new believers called “30 Day Next Steps,” which is still used today throughout our ministry in multiple languages. In addition, we have partnered with Jesse Bradley, a former soccer player turned pastor, to reach the largest sports audience in the world during the World Cup.
Whether beginning a Christian Growth Index (CGI) designed to measure spiritual growth in our contacts or launching a new mentoring program for Online Missionaries, which trained coaches to help volunteers expand their skills in assisting seekers to take the next step in their spiritual journey, GMO is always innovating and finding new ways to reach the world more effectively.
With your help, we remain fully committed to leveraging technology so that everyone can come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and grow in a personal relationship with Him.
