Before 2008, Global Media Outreach had an extensive worldwide reach, receiving more than 2 million indicated decisions through online outreach. However, thanks to significant investment from some amazing partners, the next two years saw exponential growth.
In 2008, more than 3 million people indicated a decision to follow Christ through our websites. In 2009, that number more than tripled to 10.5 million indicated decisions. And the growth continued over the next few years as well!
With this increase in indicated decisions came a critical need for more Online Missionaries. Through a church outreach program, Global Media Outreach built its online volunteer base to more than 4,000 over these two years, many of which still serve with us today.
Technology also saw some significant changes in 2008 and 2009.
The App Store was released in 2008, completely changing the way we access information, play games, purchase items, interact with businesses and more. Global Media Outreach jumped in the app game later on with the creation of 30-Day NextSteps, a discipleship app for new and recommitting believers.
Smartphones went mainstream during this time, as well. With increased access to the internet – no matter where you are located – Global Media Outreach has a greater chance of reaching the entire world with the Gospel through technology.
Who knows what the next ten years will bring, but looking back ten years shows us just how far we have come. Let us praise God together for how he has used this technology to advance His kingdom and bring Himself glory!
