Global Media Outreach officially launched in 2004. The first major campaign that ran was a collaboration with ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ which resulted in more than 20,000 indicated decisions for Christ.
During this time, our small team was located in a windowless office in California and working on a secure response system that would allow volunteers to safely respond to the thousands that were interacting with the online Gospel presentations.
One main reason for the success of Global Media Outreach in its early years was the support from founder Walt Wilson had from people already in ministry, not the least of which was Steve Douglass, president of Campus Crusade for Christ. In a meeting Walt had with Steve and other business leaders in the early 2000s, he laid out a vision for reaching 1 billion people with the Gospel through technology by 2020.
By God’s grace, we’re on pace to double Walt’s vision and reach 2 billion with the Gospel by the end of 2020. What an amazing testament to the greatness of the Lord!
